In Spring of 2003, U.S. and British coalition soldiers discovered 70,000 pounds of un-circulated Iraqi coins that had been decommissioned by Saddam Hussein for failing to bear his image. The soldiers cooked up the brilliant idea to auction these coins off and use the proceeds to rebuild an orphanage that was destroyed during Husseins regime.
Ultimately, the team got permission to purchase the entire coin collection, and today, their group Products for Good uses these coins to honor veterans.
